Welcome back to a new blog post and this one is an exciting one, for me anyway, because I’ve been waiting over a month to use this but I can finally write my review on the Filter by Molly-Mae Extra Dark Tan and Mitt. If you didn’t already know, this new Tan on the market was released by Love Island 2019 Star, Molly-Mae. I’m not a big user of fake tan because I’m always worried about it going patchy or too dark, so I’m hoping I find this one good so I can be less like Casper for the last few months before Summer. Anyway, what did I think about the Filter Fake Tan, is it any good?, is it worth the money? … let’s find out!
Let’s start with the application process. The tan itself applied really evenly and also spread well without sticking to dry patches … which no matter what I do I always have really dry shins, so this was a great sign from the get go. It took me around 10 minutes to tan my whole body (for reference, I only did one coat as the tan is extra dark and didn’t want to over do it) and this is quite quick for me because I’m usually quite a perfectionist and am terrified of going orange so I have to take my time to make it even, but I was impressed with how well and quickly it did apply. Another thing I was happy with was it has a really nice scent … almost like sunscreen, and I can’t stop smelling it; it smells like holiday. I was really looking forward to using this mitt as it has an elasticated bottom which grips onto your wrist and doesn’t cause it to slip and slide off like other mitts. The tan gives you time to really work it into your skin and doesn’t dry immediately; but it did still dry fairly quick, so you don’t get that sticky feeling afterwards whilst waiting to get dressed. The only thing I didn’t like about this mitt though is once you’ve tanned one hand and move on to the other, it rubs off the tan you’ve already applied when you go to take the mitt off. I had to re-blend the tan without putting the glove back on, which isn’t much of a hassle, but definitely worth mentioning. I then waited for the tan to dry before getting dressed and leaving the tan to develop.
I left the tan on overnight and I can say, very happily, that it didn’t transfer on to my white bedding!! I did notice that in the morning the tan had a stronger biscuity smell to it, which I don’t really like, but it is tan so it’s expected and I guess that smell would have been down to it developing overnight. The following morning I was a little worried because I looked very orange but, when I got in the shower, a lot of tan seemed to wash off, again this is expected because it’s the guide colour. Once I’d dried off I did notice that it was a little patchy and I didn’t look quite as tanned as I would have liked; as you can see in the photo above. The colour it did turn out, wouldn’t be one that I’d call extra dark? If you had a darker skin tone than me, I don’t know how much of a difference you would see with this tan, you may have to apply a coat or two more than I did.

So, what’s the verdict? My overall opinion isn’t as good as I thought it would be, but I reckon with a second layer it would look that bit darker and fill in the patches. The mitt is good for the first layer as it doesn’t slide about, but I would use one of my other ones to do the other hand and a second layer, so it wouldn’t rub it off. Apart from the patches, I do like the colour it gave off as it gives a natural golden glow and it just gives you that sun kissed finish. As the colour of the tan isn’t that dark, I would suggest doing more than one layer but other tanning brands do have a better range of colours, especially if you’re looking for a particularly dark one.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post, I’m actually impressed with the tan and can see myself using it quite often just for that little bit of colour, especially in the winter months or when I’ve not been on holiday. I’m sorry this review was so short but there’s not much else I can say about the tan. I hope you enjoyed the post anyway and maybe it helped you decide whether this tan would be worth trying out. I will see you soon with another post but be sure to check out my previous post before then💛
