Hiya, I hope you’re all well. I can’t believe I’m already reviewing my 8th sponge in my review series. I was looking and looking trying to find a good one to review next and then, when browsing on the Boots website, I remembered they stocked Fenty Beauty and it had so many good reviews on it, so I wanted to try it out for myself. Is it worth the money? Is it better than the Beauty Blender? Let’s find out!
I haven’t previously owned anything from Fenty Beauty, despite really wanting to when it first came out, however I know their packaging is always really pretty. I did really know what to expect when it came to packaging for this makeup sponge as sometimes sponges doing really have packaging, maybe a clear bag or they can come in a really fancy box … just like the Dior one did. This one came in a cute little box, with the Fenty logo on and the staple black and pink faded picture on the background of the box. The sponge itself is a pale nudey, pink which I like because if it were to stain with products, it won’t look like it whereas black sponges or other coloured ones can really show up stains and can look warm out and old before it actually is.
The shape of the sponge is probably my favourite yet out of all the ones I’ve reviewed so far in this series. It has a rounded bottom, like the Beauty Blender, it has a slanted edge just like the Real Techniques Sponge and then the top has been left straight. I find this perfect because the round edge it really good for easily bouncing in the product on the majority of the face, then the slanted edge and the flat top makes it a perfect fit for getting right under the eyes and blending into the lower lash line. Having the slanted edge really helps to mould to the features and curves on the face e.g. the chin and the cheek bones and it’s a good shape for also baking under the contour in a straight line.
As you can tell from the pictures below, the sponge does grow considerably when it’s damp which is always a bonus because it makes it a lot less firm and more bouncy and this helps to create a smoother, more glowy finish without any patches. The Sponge retails at £13, which even considering the name of the product and it being by Rihanna, isn’t actually that pricey; especially compared to the big brands like Beauty Blender. I’d say it’s a medium price range compared to the higher priced ones from the Beauty Blenders and the Chanel one and the cheaper ones from Morphe and Real Techniques. As great as this sponge is, I wouldn’t say you necessarily need to spend that little bit more on this one, as the Real Techniques one and other cheaper ones are just as good!
So, what’s the verdict? My overall opinion on this sponge is very positive, I’m very happy with the sponge as it’s very good quality, it blends really well and doesn’t soak up all the product. It’s really well priced for not only the quality and how well it works, but also being created by Rihanna and being her brand. It’s always great to be able to get hold of a new release in the UK without having to pay a hefty import charge and shipping and you can find Fenty products at the likes of Harvey Nichols and Boots.com.
