Hey there and welcome to a new post on my blog. Today’s post is particularly exciting because it’s a collab with fellow blogger Grace who is over at www.lifeinbloom2.wordpress.com. We decided to collab on a review post where we will be doing a full review on a new product we have in our collection. I decided to do a review on the MMMMitchell x Beauty Bay palette because it’s a new purchase of mine and I wanted to get playing with it. Anyway, without anymore rambling, you might wanna grab a cuppa or snack because this is gonna be a long one and let’s hear my thoughts.

The packaging of this palette is beautiful, I don’t think I’ve seen many others like this. It almost looks like a CD holder, you know the one all of use 90’s kids had growing up? The packaging is bright, colourful and iridescent which ties in with the whole style of the palette and colours inside. It has 32 shades with a wide range of colours and finishes as well as possible looks. I love the fact that it opens up like a book, rather than having the mirror just on top as it makes it more smaller and travel friendly as well as not taking up as much room in your makeup draws. I really like the fact that the mirror is magnetic and detachable because again it’s perfect for travelling with and being on the go but also if you’re someone, like me, who likes to have the mirror as close to her face/eyes as physically possible, without having to hold the whole palette, then it’s perfect!!
There isn’t a particular colour story with this one as there’s a mixture of brights, dark, warm and cool tones, shimmers, mattes literally everything you could imagine. But they all compliment each other in terms of being bright and colourful, which perfect for someone who likes more colourful looks and to go out of their comfort zone. For someone like me who likes to experiment with makeup but also likes to do a more neutral look for everyday wear, then this palette is perfect because you have your nude, brown and lighter pink and yellow which allows you to do just that. There’s also a black and a white (well 3 shimmery whites anyway) in this palette which, to me, is always a bonus.
As you can see from the photo above, most of the shades are very pigmented and swatched really nicely. The matte shades were really smooth and creamy which makes them really easy to blend. The shimmers/ foiled shadows are also very smooth, almost buttery and the colour pay off is incredible, you don’t even need to wet your brush for the pigmentation to show on the eyes.
Starting with the left side of the palette and the first two rows. I am very pleased with these yellows and the colour pay off they gave both when swatching and using them. In the photo you can’t really see the shade Muffin, however in person one swipe of the product is all you need, it just doesn’t swatch as well as the other shimmers. It’s a beautiful shimmer that has like a pink reflect on it and definitely compliments the pinks in the palette.
The second two rows on the left hand side also swatched well for the most part, however I was a little disappointed with how Milkshake swatched as it’s a bit more patchy than the others. I think maybe pastel pink shadows could be just really hard to make ultra pigmented because from other palettes I’ve owned this has also been the case. It may just be a shadow that you just have to build a little bit more.
Moving onto the top right two rows now. Again the other white shimmer which is called Minty, but this one has green reflects, was a little hard to swatch onto my arm, however touching the pan with either the brush or my finger did show the pigment really well. I was particularly impressed with the black because look just how opaque it is. I’m not usually all about blacks when it comes to makeup (more when it comes to clothes) but I’m so drawn to it, it’s making me want to do a dark and grungy, smokey eye.
And finally for the last two rows. The two purples called Morgan and Myles High didn’t swatch too well but one of them is more of pastel colour which again could be the reason why it didn’t swatch too well. Mega, which is a blue foiled shadow, is be absolutely stunning. Lastly, as we were talking about the white shimmers not being too great when it comes to swatching, Marine clearly wasn’t listening because this one swiped like an absolute dream. This one has blue reflects in it and I’m very excited to get playing with all the blues.
So there we have all of the swatches. I don’t really think the swatches mean anything because if it’s easy to build up or just needs a little spritz on the brush then it wouldn’t put me off the buying the palette or thinking the quality of the shadows is bad and if they swatch well, then you just know a little goes a long way when you’re actually doing the look.

A previous look I created:
So, my opinion on the palette? I did have high hopes and expectations for this palette due to having another Beauty Bay Palette which I absolutely love and this one did not disappoint. The shadows are very good quality, you get fairly big pans and a vast range of colours and this makes it really versatile. The palette does retail at £30, so it is approaching the more high end price bracket. However, for 32 incredibly pigmented, good quality shadows, it works out at less than £1 a pan. I will just say that there is kickback in the pans, some more than others, particularly the more pale shades. Some people see this as an issue but for me it is what it is. I am so excited to get creating more makeup looks with this palette and (shameless self promo here) you will be able to see those over on my makeup Instagram which is @lucibarkerblog.
