2 Festive Looks With XX Revolution.| Blogmas

The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on now and I’m looking forward to picking up my brushes and getting creative; it’s time to start the Christmas makeup look posts for 2020. For the first makeup post of Blogmas this year, I’ll be sharing 2 looks that I’ve created with 2 of the XX Revolution XXpress palettes and sharing my first impressions of them too.

If you’re a long term reader of my blog, you’ll know just how much I love the revolution brand as a whole. From their makeup to their skincare and each and every one of their brands. Which means I have tried a fair few of their products but, surprisingly, I hadn’t tried anything from XX Revolution; well until I was buying some Christmas presents and got distracted and bought these palettes for myself instead … oops. I’ve had my eye on the XXpress palettes, particularly XXtortion, since they launched back in the summer. XXtortion is one of the most stunning green eye palettes I’ve seen for a while and it’s particularly ideal for festive makeup looks. I also picked up the XXtrovert palette because it’s a stunning more of a everyday neutrals palette but one you can glam up with the foiled gold shadow and a pop of red.

The packaging of the XXpress Palettes is very sleek and minimalistic with black and chrome colouring. They’re really good quality and sturdy, with a handy little mirror. Although they’re small, they’re a little bit chunky but still the perfect size for on the go and for travelling with. Retailing at just £10 for 4 good quality eye shadows, really good quality packaging with a mirror; I think they’re really good value for money; it just depends on the specific palette you get, how great value it is. (See review of XXtortion for explanation).

Look 1 with XXtortion:

I’m such a lover of green eye shadow and this palette has 3 absolutely stunning shades of green, all perfect for creating the ultimate festive makeup look. The two shades on the right hand side of the palette (shades 2 and 4) blend really nicely and have really good colour pay off. However, the lightest shade in the palette (shade 1) really does need working with (as you can see from the swatches above) and using some setting spray on the brush or using your finger is the best way to get any of the colour on your eye lid. Shade number 3, which is a foiled shadow, is very messy and can easily be swatched on the arm, but when getting it on your eye, it’s a whole different story. Again, you really need to work with this one. I did cut the crease with this shade but you could honestly hardly see it against the other two greens, so I had to pack shade 1 on top of it. Every shade in this palette has some form of shimmer, which does make it difficult to create a look because I don’t really like putting shimmery colours in my crease or using them to blend.

I decided to go for a cut crease using shade in the outer crease, 2 to blend it out and 3 for the cut crease. Although I would never normally blend with a shimmery colour, it actually turned out really well and I love the way it looks on; there could do with being a lighter shade of green to blend more easily, but if you use a light hand and a little amount of product, you can get a good blend.

Although it is a little bit of a hassle to create a look with the palette, especially as you need to spend a little bit of time to build up the colours and work with them to be able to blend them nicely, it is a stunning palette and you can create a stunning look with it. I just might need to use some of your face powder or a little bit of you bronzer to help with the blend.

Look 2 with XXtrovert:

The XXtrovert palette is one of those that you just cannot go wrong with; a red, a brown, a cold and a paler nude, brown to blend everything together with. The formula of the shadows in this palette is a little different to XXtortion because there’s three mattes and one foiled shadow. The matte shades are really creamy, soft and super easy to blend; you do have to work a little bit to build up all the matte shades though. I must say, the foiled shadow worked so much better from this palette than the other one, however they’re both just as crumbly and messy to use.

For this look, I decided to mix shades and 4 into the crease whilst building up the outer corner as much as I could with them. I used shade to blend those colours together and it blended almost seamlessly. I then took shade 3, which is the most gorgeous gold foiled shadow I’ve used in a long time, to cut the crease. This look just SCREAMED Christmas too me

I do actually prefer this palette to XXtortion, as much as I was hoping it would be the other way round, or at least on par. My only issue with the palette, is that it’s just not very versatile with the amount of different looks you can create with it; saying that, there’s not loads of looks you can do with any eye shadow quad.

I am so pleased with how both of these looks turned out and even more pleased that the XXtrovert palette lived up to my expectations; out did them in fact. It’s very hard with such small hooded lids to create certain looks some times, but they actually came out really well. As I always say, as long as you blend, blend, blend, you can make any eye makeup look half decent. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post and I will see you tomorrow with a new one!

Have you tried these palettes? Which look is your fave?

Oh that’s it. I need to get swatch stencils! <3 Those gingerbread men swatches! Also love your little star rating system for your reviews Luci! I may have to share some inspiration, I love it!

Also, I really need to get on that NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Powder Foundation. I love nothing more than a full coverage and an extra bit of coverage in my powder always sounds a dream!

These looks are insanely beautiful! Love them both! I can see what you mean about having to build up the shades, especially with the green palette. It’s a shame because they’re a beautiful idea. That gold look <3 hold my heart!

Also, what a name for a highlighter, Glowcomotion! I love it. 🙂 MAC Ruby Woo; what a classic.

Oh no, I’ve done what you’ve done and deleted a long comment😅 I swear by them. Deffo check out Etsy as they can get expensive elsewhere for a once time use thing. They also do every single pattern and image you can imagine.

I never used to be a powder foundation kinda gal but I love this one. Perfect for on its own, with some concealer or with a full face to achieve a flawless look.

Thank you so much, it’s such a shame as they look so opaque and stunning in the pan.

I couldn’t be without my ruby woo; even if I hardly ever wear it😂 xx
