My Top 5 Nail Polishes for Christmas Time. | Blogmas

It’s around this time of December that we’ve all got our beauty appointments booked in; whether it’s for our hair, nails, brows, lashes or all of the above, we’re all preparing for the big day. One of my favourite things to get done that makes me feel put together is my nails, but what colour do I choose when there are just SO many christmassy colours to choose from. For today’s post, I thought I would put together a list of my favourites to hopefully narrow down your decision to make sure you get it right this year, without regretting your choice; trust me, I’ve done it many a time. Here are my top 5 nail polishes for Christmas time.

Essie – Russian Roulette:

First up we have Essie’s Russian Roulette which is a pillar box red. A good ol’ classic red is one of those nail colours that you just cannot go wrong with at any time of the year, but especially at Christmas time. It looks great on short nails, long nails, acrylic nails, it looks great matte, glittery or just it’s regular shiny finish. I only own a handful of Essie nail polishes but they have to be the best brand I’ve tried from the drugstore. Russian roulette applies really easily, even when using my weaker hand (this can usually end it a disaster), after just two coats it’s completely opaque, it has a gorgeous shiny finish and … it really lasts! If you’re looking for a classic pillar box red this Christmas, this would be the one I would recommend to you; it would even look nice with some gold glitter!!

Essie – Chocolate Cakes:

Next up we have another Essie polish which is a gorgeous brown, called Chocolate Cakes. If you’re anything like me and love a very dark polish on your nails, particularly black but you want to keep it a little bit festive, then I would suggest a really dark brown. Chocolate cakes is a warm brown – almost burgundy in some lights – that can even look as dark as black when it’s not in direct sunlight. This one may need 3 coats, so if you’re doing it yourself it can be a bit more of a hassle, but worth it once they’re all done and dry. I’m definitely drawn to this one for my hands this year, if I can get my acrylics done *fingers crossed*.

China Glaze – Loco-Motive:

Loco-Motive is, surprisingly, the only glitter to make it into my 5 picks but it’s bronze glitter with a brown polish. The brown isn’t really opaque; it could take you a good few coats to get the glitter opaque enough on your own. Although it does look great on it’s own, especially if you like more of a clear polish with the added element of glitter, in my opinion, it looks so much better with a colour underneath; I’ve been using Chocolate Cakes with this one and the result is STUNNING.

China Glaze – Nice Caboose!:

Also from China Glaze we have a gorgeous iridescent purple called Nice Caboose!. I know a lot of people don’t directly connect purple with Christmas but if you’re struggling to find a colour that’s dark enough or light enough for your liking or you want your nails to look Christmassy, but don’t like glitter or too much nail art … this one would be fab for you. It’s really opaque so you could get away with just one coat, as it keeps it quite a light purple. Or with 2 coats you could make it a little darker.

Unfortunately, neither of these China Glaze Polishes seem to be on sale anymore (I think maybe they’ve been discontinued) but you can find them on eBay and similar websites.

CND Shellac – Aura:

You may be thinking ‘I could never wear green’ but hear me out. Aura by CND was released this time last year. I chose it at the salon for my Christmas nail colour and after the first use I fell in love with it. It’s the most gorgeous dark Christmas green, it’s so opaque and looks fab on it’s own, with some glitter or nail art and even matte. For me personally, because I’m not much of a colour kinda gal when it comes to nails,  I think it looks best on the toes but I may go out of my comfort zone and put it on my hands this year. Some super dark polishes usually require 3 coats to get a completely opaque finish, but this one looks great after just two; so if you’re doing them yourself, you don’t have the hassle of waiting for the 3 coats to dry. Although this wouldn’t necessarily go with everything you wear, at Christmas time I feel like we’re all wearing greens, burgundies, black, gold etc. that it would compliment those colours rather than clash with them. I cannot recommend Aura enough!

CND Shellac – Ruby Ritz:

Last, but not least, we have another CND Shellac Polish is Ruby Ritz. I haven’t actually added this one to my nail polish collection yet but it’s a limited edition polish that comes out every Christmas and I had this one on my hands last Christmas. It’s a gorgeous red, pink colour with red glitter which is perfect for this time of year because you always need a little sparkle, don’t you? If you’re into your bold, dark reds, then this may not be the one for you because it’s a little bit of a light red but in some lights it can look more burgundy. Ruby Ritz just screams Christmas to me; I’d definitely see if your local salon stocks this!

So, those were my nail polish picks for Christmas time. There’s such a mix of different colours and finishes in this post, which is unheard of, of me at any other time of the year. I just wish I had more hands to be able to have each one l o l. Do you own any of these polishes? What colours do you think you’ll you be going for this year?

Haha, I know that feeling! I haven’t worn nail polish in over a year now and I’m just buzzing to get wearing it again and, just the same, want enough hands to paint every colour under the sun!

That Chocolate Cake and Loco-Motive brown glitter combo sounds a dream! <3 See I’m much the opposite; I love going colourful with my nails. I love it all, bright, pastels and even nudes. Alas though, yes I know exactly what you mean by nail regrets and have definitely fallen victim to this in the past! Crackle nail polish and awfully applied dark polishes I’m looking at you! Haha. 🙂
